Books

The text books for Sociology, and Economics have not arrived yet.  I will be using current events and the local area as a teaching tool until the text books arive.

American History 11th Grade

This course covers how certain factors effect political, institutional, societal, economic and sociological development of the United States.  Emphasizing how past events have i9nfluenced present day society.

Other course objectives include the improvement of such skills as research and writing, the increase of knowledge concerning the modern United States, the understanding of different historical interpretation relating to the period, as well as assistance in the developemnet of an objective and critical approach to the study of history.

The instructional method is lecture discussion combined with video and library assignments.  Ther will be a worksheet for each chapter, that will be due at the beginning of the class period the day that the test will be given for that chapter.  There will also be a quiz given for each chapter sometime during that chapter.  The quiz will consist of vocabulary that is used during each chapter.  There will be a chapter test given at the end of each chapter.  There will be a semester test and final examination that will cover the entire course of instruction for the semester, this will carry a weight of five (5) grades for the semester.  All test will be matching, multiple choice, with an essay, and each test will receive a numerical grade.  The nine weeksd test will be a review of the outlines that the student has been taking on those chapters covered.  This will carry a weight of five(5) grades.  In addition each student will be required  to do a book report for each semester.  The book reports will be due on the following dates, 12 October 2012, and 15 March 2013.  This will carry a weight of five (5) grades.  The examination, book report, worksheets, notes and chapter test will be averaged together and a final grade will be determined on the following basis:

90 - 100 =  A

80 -   89 = B

70 -   79 = C

60 -   69 = D

   0 -  59 = F

NO LATE, MAKE UP, OR EXTRA CREDIT WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED, EXCEPT AS STATED BY THE STUDENT HANDBOOKI.
