Geronimo Family & Community Members,
At last night’s board meeting, a vote was taken in regards to co-oping with Temple Public Schools for fall football in lieu of fall baseball. This vote did not pass so we will not be co-oping for football this season. Here are some points that impacted the vote:
1. Basketball schedules have already been set for the 2025-2026 season. If we had opted to do football, we would have had to cancel/attempt to reschedule 5 games and wouldn’t play our first basketball game until Dec. 1st. This would be a disadvantage to both girls and boys basketball teams to possibly miss 5 games (due to most teams already having filled their schedules). We want to support our new incoming basketball coaches and we don’t want to discourage them (or the players) by cutting the season short. If revisited in the future, the schedule could be better planned so those games are scheduled later in the season and can be planned around football.
2. Based on the interest survey for THIS year’s teams and diving deeper into the data (looking at attendance, eligibility, and other factors), the numbers were not there to support a vote for THIS year.
3. Beginning this process has made us aware of several other hiccups we could possibly run into. The BOE wants for us to be able to better prepare a plan so it is a successful experience for Geronimo AND Temple.
The BOE is very much interested in this and hated to dismiss it. They DO want our students to have more opportunities. They would like to discuss this possibility later this year/early next year so a decision can be made in plenty of time to plan accordingly between both schools and all coaches (if it were to pass). This kind of decision is a process and as long as we continue to see interest and commitment from students and parents, we will continue to revisit the possibility of co-oping for football.
With Bluejay pride,
Geronimo Administration

We are still accepting applications!
